I am a fan of Divergent. I really loved the book that it only took me 2-3 days to finish reading it. It was even unplanned. The book is my sister's and it is in her shelf since last year. The first time I tried reading it, I just run my eyes on the first paragraph, then I put it down. It was only last week that "Thank God, I was so bored" that I didn't notice my hands were already on my sister's books and grab just whatever. I'm happy it's Divergent.
Anyway, about the casting (for the movie -I really am thrilled and excited!) I usually leave it to the movie staff because I believe in them. Or maybe because usually I know not much about the upcoming movie nor attached to it in any way. But Divergent is different.
As I said earlier, I really love it that, like other fans, I can't help myself being updated with the development of the ongoing casting. And, it is actually amusing reading all of those fans' comments regarding who should play this and that character. I understand their rants and their violent reactions and their other opinions. Mostly, I understand their love for the characters because even I, myself, learned to love them.
The actress to play Beatrice "Tris" Prior has already been picked and revealed. I don't recognize the girl because I have never had the opportunity to see her in films or whatever. I just hope that she will give justice to the character. (Come on, she's got the lead!) She must!
The "hot" topic/issue/discussion now is who to play the very-much loved, oh-so-wonderful character of Tobias "Four" Eaton. Fans are becoming like Candors who can't help but argue (oops! not very Candor) and debate (yeah, very much Candor) on who should have this "holy" part.
Latest news I got is that the options are down to three: Alex Pettyfer, Jeremy Irvine and Lucas Till.
He is popular for playing Number Four on "I am Number Four" -another book-turned-into-movie film. Actually, I am reminded of him while reading Divergent because of the name similarity: Four. Nevertheless, I have never let it make me think of him as Four. I've actually never see him nor think of him as Four/Tobias. Now, I am half-surprised, half-"I knew it!" about the whole thing.
If he happens to get the role, I'm sure to be happy for him and wish him all the best. But at the same time, I feel like I won't be much as happy for Alex as for Four.
I still think, someone out there is much suited or maybe even perfect for the role. That's goes for all the other contenders. I don't have any particular actor in mind but I really think that "Four" is not in those three. (I don't think Lucas can do it ~sorry~ but I have the same hopes for Jeremy as for Alex.)
I watched Alex in I am Number Four and I have to say that he didn't leave much impression on me. I even asked my sister to lend me a copy of the said film so I can re-watch it and maybe change my mind towards Alex's acting skills. I want to give him a chance.
Lastly, I want to say that when the cast of The Hunger Games was revealed, I had the same feeling of uneasiness. I don't know JLaw back then, nor Liam Hemsworth, and forgot about Josh Hutcherson. I also really love the HG Trilogy that I finished reading it (the first book) just in time before the movie came out.(I'm already done with the whole trilogy a month later.)
And it's not like I can do something about it once the authority decides.
I'll just look forward for the last book and the movie. :)
